The Night Strangers by Chris Bohjalian
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: At last a book that I couldn't put down. So much intrigue! The book will delve into the use of witchcraft and send you on a journey of danger and suspense, and yet there is nothing implausible or predictable I salute the author for the unexpected ending! There is nothing predictable or implausible about this one! |
Heartsick by Chelsea Cain
Submitted by: Julie Rating: 4 Stars Julie says: A real page-turner! I couldn't put this book down! Her writing reminds me of Dan Brown when it comes to keeping you on the edge of your seat. A female serial killer? You bet! You won't have trouble getting to sleep while reading this, but you may not eat or sleep until it's complete. If you enjoy this, there are 2 more in the series that follow. |
_Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: Surprisingly exciting compared to some sequels, this book follows up on the life of Gretchen and Archie. I couldn't eat or sleep until every page was turned! I couldn't wait until the 3rd and final book arrived! |
__Evil at Heart by Chelsea Cain
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: How does this author keep us so enthralled with the continued saga of Gretchen and Archie? Like watching a serious accident, I dare you to look away, and yet, none of it made me afraid of the dark. Definitely one of my favorite thriller authors!!!! |
__The Night Season by Chelsea Cain
Rating: 3 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: I opened this book with high hopes and was disappointed. Our pal Archie is back, but on a new path of rather humdrum mystery. This book simply did not compare to the first three in the series. |
_Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton

_Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Anna Anna says: Very entertaining. The suspense had be hanging on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book! |
__The Christmas Wedding by James Patterson & Richard DiLallo
Rating: 3 Stars Submitted by: Joan Joan says: Cute book, good for holiday reading, little suspense. A little thin on plot. |
The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans
Rating: 3 Stars Submitted by: Amanda Amanda says: I enjoyed this quick read. The story was nice, and its a great read for the holidays. |
Lost December by Richard Paul Evans
Rating: 5 Stars Review: A painfully candid and powerful retelling of a modern day prodigal son story. Not just for the holidays! |
A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick
Rating: 3 Stars Submitted by: Brittany Brittany says: I finished the book in one sitting, could not put it down. However, I still can't decide if I liked it or not. Not your usual review but there it is. |
The Confession by John Grisham
Rating: 4 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: Unexpected twists and turns are on the menu once again in Grisham's latest fiction. Just when you think you know where the author is leading you, he reveals subplots and detours that are somehow entirely plausible. How does he do it? |
Ape House by Sara Gruen
Submitted by: Julie Rating: 2 Stars Julie says: After reading "Water for Elephants", I had high hopes for this book. The opening was exciting and promising, but the middle was around 100 pages of "something ALMOST just happened....but didn't". The climax of the book brought it all together nicely, but it was disappointing in comparison to her previous work. |
Home Front by Kristin Hannah
Rating: 4 Stars Submitted by: Amanda Amanda says: I really liked this book about a a mother's deployment to the war. I felt like the end did drag on just a bit, but the book was very well written and I would highly recommend it. |
Tinkers by Paul Harding
Rating: 1 Star Submitted by: Amanda Amanda says: This book, what I could get through, was just not good. It is an award-winning novel and very short so one would think you could fly right through it. Not the case. I found it a little to Faulkner-ess and the prose really dragged on. I found myself reading many pages and then realizing I had no idea what I had just read. Something about a clock... Maybe I gave up to soon, but I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. Good luck to those who try. |
Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: A truly charming story that may remind you of "Secret Life of Bees" in some ways. The writing does not require a fast-paced action packed story line; it just sweeps you off your feet in style. I would read this again! |
Defending Jacob by William Landay
Rating: 3 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: While the pace was a little too slow for me, you'll be glad you stayed with it in the end. The author added a few unexpected twists that unfold to reveal a juicy plot underneath. |
A Turn in the Road by Debbie Macomber
Rating: 3 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: A sweet story that will leave you wondering who the main character will choose right up to the very end. Many life lessons were highlighted by the author. I found it to be a little too sweet from time to time, but if you enjoy this author, you won't be disappointed! |
Graveminder by Melissa Marr
Submitted by: Christine Rating: 4 Stars Christine says: This book is a fantastic first adult novel for Young Adult author Melissa Marr. She takes the reader through a world seemingly the same as ours, but with some deadly differences. I gave it a four simply because it was a little slow to get into, but by the end I couldn't put it down. "Sleep well and stay where I put you." So appropriate. |
Breakfast With Buddha by Roland Merullo
Submitted by: Julie Rating: 3 Stars Julie says: This book was full of adventure and philosophy. During a road trip, 2 unlikely people become friends. Once finished, you'll look back and realize the subtle hints the author was delicately doling out. Very enjoyable! |
State of Wonder by Ann Patchett
Rating: 3 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: A good read for book club. I found the writing to be wonderfully descriptive, but the story line was not exactly obvious. Everyone is reading this book so I was expecting a real page turner, but really it's more of a "gets you thinking" book and not so much about the action. |
New York to Dallas by J.D. Robb
Rating: 4 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: I gave this a high review for its suspenseful nature. It was an action packed mystery that is sure to please all J.D. Robb fans! |
__Save Me by Lisa Scottoline
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: A real page-turner! I was concerned at the beginning that the action would dissipate but the suspense was enough to keep me reading. I couldn't put the book down! Not her usual fare, this book was about mother-child relationships as well as being a true suspense novel. |
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
Rating: 4 Stars Submitted by: Amanda Amanda says: I really enjoyed the style of this book. Reading the letters which made up the entire book was like sneaking into an attic and finding a treasure. I loved the story, though it was sad at times, I really enjoyed this book. |
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Daj Sijie
Rating: 3 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: An enjoyable semi-autobiographical novel about 2 teens who are sent on a reeducation journey in communist China. The story is witty and ironic and very easy to enjoy. |
The Story of Beautiful Girl by Rachel Simon
Rating: 3 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: This book covers the delicate topic of mistreatment of handicapped people in the 1960s and 70s, when most handicapped people ended up in an institution. It's great for discussion groups, but not if you're looking for a book that you just can't put down. |
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Julie Julie says: Highly recommend this book, even cat people would get a lot out of it. |
Still Missing by Chevy Stevens
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Amanda Amanda says: I literally had to pull myself away from this suspenseful thriller. I haven't read many mysteries, but this book makes me want to read more in the genre. I can't say enough great things about this book. |
__Never Knowing by Chevy Stevens
Rating: 4 Stars Submitted by: Amanda Amanda says: I haven't read many mysteries, but this one was really great. The suspense literally kept me up at night, not only thinking about the plot, but wanting to know what would happen. I strongly recommend this book to both mystery lovers and those who just want a good read. Rating: 3 Stars
Submitted by: Julie Julie says: Definitely intriguing, but a little over-the-top at times. |
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Submitted by: Meghan Rating: 5 Stars Meghan says: While I wish this was never made into a movie, the book itself was Fantastico. The author uses a common southern vernacular that is easily approachable by the reader. I enjoy the fact that Ms. Stockett approaches this subject from many personal aspects. With our historical knowledge of the Civil Rights Movement, it is easy to understand the obvious feelings of the oppressed, but to hear the love in some of their stories and the wonderful relationships they developed during this time of unease in the South, was enticing. The reactions of some of "The Help", was quite hysterical at times. I felt there was no character portrayed as a real villain or hero. It is simply a story from different points of view. A real page turner!! |
Blood Bound by Rachel Vincent
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Christine Christine says: I thought this book was amazing! I picked it up because I have enjoyed other books by this author, but I didn't realize how much I would enjoy this one. I finished it in less than a day, it was just so good I couldn't put it down. |
Stray by Rachel Vincent
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Christine Christine says: I absolutely love the fact that a YA author that I adore writes adult fiction too! And this book is just the beginning of an AMAZING series that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you read. Told from the perspective of the main character, Faythe, I felt like I was immersed in her life. Action-packed and thrilling, this book has an elaborate kidnapping plot, and more. |
Rogue by Rachel Vincent
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Christine Christine says: The second novel in the Shifters series, Faythe once again finds herself in some trouble. Instead of being kidnapped, she finds herself accused of purposely infecting her once-human boyfriend while trying to find whoever is killing tomcats throughout their territory. |
Pride by Rachel Vincent
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Christine Christine says: Even three books in, this series doesn't fail to amaze me. On trial for her life, Faythe is faced with difficult decisions in the midst of a strange deal amongst the strays, meeting a bruin, and discovering a new werecat who was born to two human parents and never scratched. Read the book to figure out what happens! |
Prey by Rachel Vincent
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Christine Christine says: Marc is in exile, Manx is on trial, and something strange is going on the strays in the free zone. It's a race against time to find Marc when he goes missing and figure out who is targeting and tagging the strays. |
Shift by Rachel Vincent
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Christine Christine says: I was kept on the edge of my seat as a whole new species is introduced as Thunderbirds attack Faythe's pride, sent by Malone in an attempt to take her pride over. Faythe must break free of the Thunderbirds and find proof that they were wrongly accused, or else Kaci will die. |
Alpha by Rachel Vincent
Rating: 5 Stars Submitted by: Christine Christine says: It's time for war. The final book in this series will keep you turning page after page until you finish the book. Malone must be stopped and Faythe must make her choice. An equally heartbreaking yet heartwarming ending to such an amazing series. |
